Take the metal arms and the bottom plate outside to spray paint. Painting the ceiling blades. Spray one to two coats of kilz primer onto the fan parts. Clean the fan blades arms and the brass bottom cover well with a damp rag and some multi purpose spray cleaner if necessary.

Apply several thin coasts allowing each coat to dry before applying the next coat. You could also use a can of spray paint to paint the blades. Apply multiple coats until you ve achieved the coverage you want. Lay them on a tarp or drop cloth.

But i did not sand the brass. After the primer coat then use satin or semi gloss on the blades. When the blade s top side is almost dry turn it over to paint the underside. You should re assemble the fan unit only when the fan blades have completely dried.

Shake the spray can thoroughly before use. Let the primer dry. I would use a primer first if you are going from dark blades to white. Allow the blades and hardware to air dry thoroughly.
